Elkonin Boxes Video

Here we are playing a new literacy center game: Elkonin Boxes. We work with our partner to sound out CVC words (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant). The student with the “teacher” mediator card puts the chips under the boxes and slides them into each box as both students say the sounds. The student with the “student” mediator card taps out each sound on their fingers. (We first slide our thumb across each of our fingertips and say the whole word “yak”. Then we touch the pointy finger to our thumb and say the first sound, /y/, then we touch our middle finger to our thumb and say the second sound, /a/, then we touch our ring finger to our thumb and say the third sound, /k/. Then we slide our thumb across each of our fingertips as we say the whole word again “yak”.
