Birthday's at School

If your family celebrates birthdays and you would like to do something special to celebrate their birthday at school we have had families donate a copy of their childs favorite book to the class and I read it for their birthday or if you would like to send in a snack for your childs birthday it has to be from the "Approved Foods List " this list is quite long. I've gone through it and there aren't a lot of foods that I have heard of- I'm assuming that they must be sold in different parts of the country. I made a shorter list of the foods that I know of that are on the John Stalker Institute that can be found here. If you send in a snack/drink that needs to be eaten with a utensil/cup/plate please make sure to send those in as well.

We had so much fun using iPads!

First we went over the rules for when we use iPads...

Then we learned how to take pictures and also how to project them up onto the screen...

We loved showing off our pictures that we made using the "Drawing Pad" app...

Then we learned how to put the iPads back in the charging cart. We have to match up the number on the homes teen of the iPad to the number on the slot in the cart.

Excavating Dinosaur Fossils!

The Museum of Science came in on Monday to teach us about fossils and dinosaurs. This went perfectly with what we are learning about because we just started the first Magic Tree House book "Dinosaurs Before Dark".

We got to demonstrate how many layers of dirt and sand have to get packed on top of something for it to eventually turn into a fossil.

We loved getting to see real fossils! Pictured above is a cast of a dinosaur egg.

We all got to demonstrate how we thought a certain dinosaur must have walked just by looking at their footprints! We learned how paleontologists can tell what a dinosaur ate (meat or plants) just by looking at their footprints (based on how many toes they have), how they were traveling (running or walking) and what direction they were going all by looking at just a footprint!

Then we got to practice excavating fossils in a dig site with brushes and goggles. Paleontologist Mike explained to us that even if one person is the first one to discover a fossil all of the paleontologists at that dig site are credited for the find because they are working together as a team.
